This is a list of the 25 best globular clusters to observe during the summer months. NOTE: Last year's "Be a SAP" list is also allowed, and you only need 25 objects off of either list to get the 2008 pin. "Be a SAP" is available as an Astroplanner download also, just look for TSP2007_Telescope.txt [2007/05/05] Contributed by: Jim Donahue, Austin TX Dec Range: -47.5° to +43.1° Types: Globular(25) |

Spectral classes of all the stars and DSO's referenced in James B Kaler's book " Stars and their spectra"; 1997 paperback edition. I've also added some comments where appropriate. Some faint white dwarf info has been omitted, as have some stars which could not be located in SIMBAD (http://simbad.u-strasbg.fr/simbad) An illustration of a star's spectrum in the book is shown by a * and page number. i.e.*p168. In addition to Kaler's stars I've also added data on 20 stars brighter than 10 mag, used by the ESO for spectral reference.(www.eso.org/observing/standards/spectra/stanlis.html) Additional G2 type reference stars have also been listed from Barry Malpas' list and others. Stetson Photometric Standard Fields as published on http://www1.cadc-ccda.hia-iha.nrc-cnrc.gc.ca/community/STETSON/standards/ can be used for photometric calibration purposes. For most fields an object of interest was centred in the fields. In those cases an object type was assigned to the field and supplematary info was taken from an appropriat catalogue: AP DSO, GCVS, Herschel1, MilkyWay Glob Cluster Catalogue, NGC Acc, O.VisOC or PGC. The size refers to the size of the field, not the object mentionend in the type-field n BVRI - (user 2-field) refers to the number of stars observed in the filters BVRI (Johnson-Cousin) Other Phot. Stand.-field (user 1-field) refers to the presence of LONEOS (LON) and/or Landolt (Lan) stars in or near the field (usually within 30' or 60' in some cases) Contributed by: I.R. van de Stadt Dec Range: -77.3° to +85.2° Types: Globular(41), Globular+SMC(1), Var Star(1), Open(13), Galaxy(13), Unknown(44), Galaxy+GalClus(1), Open+LMC(3), LMC(5), SNR(1), Globular+LMC(1), SyfGal+Galaxy(1), BL Lac+Var Star(1) |
