Release Notes
[Fix] = Bug fix, [Chg] = Feature change or interface revision,
[New] = New feature
V1.2.5 (13 Apr 2003)
- [New] Object->Get Statistics shows assorted statistics
on your observing list objects.
- [Chg] ASTORB/MPCORB dialog no longer closes when the Add
button is used but can continue to add minor planets until the
Close button (formerly Cancel) is clicked.
- [Chg] Sites and Telescopes in the Resources now have a Default
flag. If a site or telescope is marked as the default then when
a new plan document is created, or a plan is created from a text
file or imported from a AutoStar tour, the default telescope
and site will be used to set the Current Site and Current Telescope
settings.
- [Chg] Setting in Preferences->Telescope to swap the direction
of telescope movement when the "E" and "W"
buttons are used (Telescope control palette and high-precision
slewing dialog).
- [Chg] Added ODM computation to Field of View (if you point
at an object, it has size and magnitude, and you have a telescope
defined, then the information underneath the chart will give
the ODM magnification and recommended eyepiece).
- [Chg] For dates in 2003 through 31 Jan 2006, the position
of Pluto is computed from USNO ephemeris table data, which should
provide much improved accuracy over the previous approximate
computation.
- [Chg] Added NEWS telescope movement buttons to High Precision
Slewing dialog. This is to enable full remote operation of the
HP slewing operation for those hiding indoors.
- [Chg] Added Millennium Star Atlas support for the Chart #
column.
- [Chg] Added ability to beep when RA/Dec/Altitude/Azimuth
outside limit range, or if the scope pointing is within a given
distance of the horizon (see Preferences->Limits).
- [Chg] Autostar tours can now be restricted to highlighted
objects only. e.g. create an AutoStar tour of all objects that
are visible, not already observed, etc.
- [Chg] Minimum Slew Sort can now be restricted to Highlighted
(or unhighlighted) objects only. e.g. Minimum Slew Sort only
the objects that are visible.
- [Chg] (Mac OS X) Greek symbols displayed in Field of View
(currently not printed though).
- [Chg] Added ability to add "Camera" custom reticles.
These are specified as sensor height and width in mm. The app
will work out the FOV for such a sensor at prime focus of the
specified telescope and display a rectangular reticle of that
size (where applicable). e.g. a 35mm camera frame would be specified
as 36x24mm. For a 2000m focal length telescope this would display
a reticle of size (approximately) 1 degree by 42 minutes in extent.
- [Chg] Slider adds ability to rotate reticles to assist with
framing. Sorry about the flickering as you manipulate the slider
in Windows, nothing much I can do about that at present.
- [Chg] Setting in Prefs->Telescope to enable/disable setting
the maximum slew rate when the scope connects (this was always
enabled before, but it's now an option in case the max slew rate
command does screwy things to your telescope).
- [Chg] High Precision Slewing now works for any telescope
type. Since Celestron scopes, for example, do not have the sync
capability, a different technique is used: the scope slews to
the nearby star, the user centres the star in the eyepiece field,
the difference in RA/Dec of the scope readings is then used as
an offset that is added to the actual RA/Dec of the target object.
Rhe RA and Dec offsets are also now displayed.
- [Fix] Minor cosmetic fix to avoid truncated text on observing
tab.
- [Fix] Fix to avoid importing blank lines, and to compute
visibility for all objects after the import completes.
- [Fix] Fixed problem with searches, etc. on catalogues with
non-numeric indexes (e.g. Washington Double Star catalogue).
Also affected catalogue refreshing.
- [Fix] FOV no longer shows a diameter of 0° 60' if the
diameter is between 59.5' and 1°.
- [Fix] If the Resources are not changed, the AstroPlanner
Resources file is not overwriiten on exit. Speeds up exiting
the application a bit.
- [Fix] Tightened up the code that converts text coordinates
in d:m:s to decimal to avoid problems in some non-English operating
systems (in the case I was looking at, the apostrophe is used
to separate thousands - like the comma is used in the US, and
was confusing the software).
- [Fix] Fixed algorithm for computing position of hyperbolic-orbit
comets.
- [Fix] Fixed bug that caused changes to be made to documents
whenever they were opened (forcing a Save Changes dialog on closing).
- [Fix] Fixed bug that caused plan merge problems if certain
internal data structures were corrupted.
- [Fix] Added horizontal scroll bar to search results window
and swapped the last two columns.
- [Fix] Fixed bug that prevented entering floating-point numbers
in fields that assumed angular measurement in degrees.
- [Fix] Re-enabled rate setting in telescope control palette
for SkySensor 2000 systems (this was disabled while debugging
the SS2K slewing code).
- [Fix] (LX200GPS) Avoid requesting the OTA Temperature during
slews, as this could cause the non-detection of slew completion.
- [Fix] Re-enabled setting maximum slew rate for SkySensor
2000 systems (this was disabled while debugging the SS2K slewing
code)
- [Fix] When slewing from the Observing tab, slewing will complete
if the application is not the active one, or if another tab is
selected. Previously, these conditions could cause the end-of-slew
detection mechanism to fail.
- [Fix] Reading plan files saved as text now works if no creator
was specified.
- [Fix] Improved precision when solar system bodies and tracks
are plotted in the FOV.
- [Fix] Fixed a scope command overlap problem on Meade Autostar
and LX200GPS scopes which could cause the app to get confused
during slewing.
V1.2.4 (22 Feb 2003)
- [Fix] Fix to prevent crashing when running with systems that
use "non-standard" date formats.
- [Fix] Fix to prevent LX200GPS scopes from returning 0°C
as the current OTA temperature when a timeout occurs (the previous
temperature will be returned).
- [Fix] Fix to prevent a crash when OTA temperature readings
are started from the OTA Temperature chart window and the "Beep
when temperature..." checkbox is set.
- [Fix] Fixed crashing bug when reading text files with spurious
blank lines.
V1.2.3 (18 Feb 2003)
- [Fix] Fixed problem with LX200 Classic slewing, where slews
would not terminate correctly (at the AstroPlanner end).
- [Fix] Fixed crashing problem with Windows if the system directory
is write-protected (for example by a virus checker). Preferences
will now be stored in the application directory automatically.
V1.2.2 (14 Feb 2003)
- [New] OTA Temperature chart. If you own a Meade LX200GPS
then you can choose Display OTA Temperature from the Telescope
menu (when the scope is connected). This will display a chart
and table of OTA temperature vs. time. You can also get it to
beep when the temperature drops below a given preset. In order
to enable this, you need to use the checkbox at the bottom of
Preferences->Telescope. Note: according to the experts,
this might only work on the 7" LX200GPS (which has a fan
cooled mirror). However, anecdotal evidence seems to point at
it working on other models too.
- [Chg] ASTORB/MPCORB dialog now has a Find Again button.
- [Chg] On Meade scopes, the slewing operation is now checked
to see whether or not it has completed. The effect of this is
that AP should report slew completion about the same time as
your scope beeps (only tested on Autostar).
- [Chg] By request I have added a means of displaying Alt/Az
in the observing list with higher precision (Preferences->General).
Currently the default is to show the angle rounded to the nearest
degree - and there's a reason for that: if you allow higher precision
then there will be a lot more list visibility updates and the
flickering might bother you (esp. on Windows and Mac Classic).
- [Chg] Ability to download and import comet and minor planet
data from JPL. Note: currently limited to the first 30,000 objects.
- [Chg] Each Site (in Resources) now has a Computer Clock Offset
parameter. Typically this will be the default of 0 hours. However,
for control of remote telescopes in other time zones, or to enforce
the local time being UTC, an offset can be supplied. This offset
is added to the time of the computer clock whenever it is accessed.
- [Chg] High-precision Slewing command now moved from the Object
menu to the Telescope menu where it more logically belongs.
- [Chg] Default Site Location parameters in Preferences->General.
If you don't specify Current Site in your plan document or create
a new site in Resources, this latitude/longitude/GMToffset will
be used as the default.
- [Chg] If your telescope is capable of aborting slews (pretty
much all telescope types) then whenever you click a "Slew
to..." button it will start the slew and change caption
to read "Abort Slew". i.e. clicking the button a second
time will abort the slew in progress.
- [Fix] Many fixes to problems found in V1.2.1. In particular,
control of LX200GPS telescopes is much improved.
V1.2.1 (30 January 2003)
- [New] Object -> Eliminate Duplicates... A new tool to
let you track down and eliminate duplicate objects. In a nutshell,
this feature compares the coordinates of each object with others
and if they are closer than a given angular distance, they are
listed as "duplicates". You can then chose which ones
you want to eliminate from your plan.
- [New] Object->Minimum Slew Order will reorder the observing
list to "minimise" the amount of slewing to get from
one object to the next in the list. It does this by attempting
to minimise the angular distance between consecutive entries
in the list. An approximate algorithm is used that is guaranteed
to be less than a factor of 2 from the optimal solution.
- [New] A "Seq." checkbox now appears in the sky
view. When this is used, dotted lines are drawn between consecutive
(visible) objects in the observing list to show the sequence.
You can use this with the Minimum Slew Order mentioned above
to get an idea of where slewing will take place.
- [New] If you merge objects from another plan document, those
objects remember their document of origin. At a later stage you
can select such an object and use the Object->Find Object
Origin command, which will bring the originating document to
the front (or open it from disk) and select the original object
in the observing list.
- [New] Option in Preferences->Sky/FOV allows you to plot
the track of a solar system object (e.g. asteroids, comets, planets)
over a period of time in the FOV chart. Useful if you want to
visualise motion for CCD imaging, etc.
- [New] Object->Save Object Data to Text File... saves information
about the currently selected object to a text file of your choosing.
The data is stored one column per line in the form: Heading,
Value. Blank or "n/a" values are omitted.
- [Chg] File->Get Info... keeps descriptive info about the
current plan document. When you load a text file plan, the information
is taken from that file. When you Save As Text, the information
is the default to be saved (you can modify it before saving).
- [Chg] The "Select from catalogue..." dialog now
allows you to choose Minimum or Maximum if you are searching
on one of: Magnitude, Separation or Size. If one catalogue was
selected then only the entry with the minimum/maximum value of
the search parameter will be returned. If you select the "All
catalogues" option then an entry from each catalogue will
be returned (assuming there is one). Useful for finding, say,
the brightest planetary nebula in Andromeda, etc.
- [Chg] The Refresh Objects from Catalogues... dialog now has
a "If no catalogue specified, find one" checkbox. This
is useful if you import a bunch of objects from a text file and
want to update, say, RA, Dec. The catalogues will be searched
and the first one containing the ID will be used.
- [Chg] To avoid confusion, the night vision slider in Preferences
no longer triggers night vision colours when the mouse enters
it. Instead, there is now a "Test" button that enables
night vision mode for 5 seconds.
- [Chg] Support for extracting minor planet elements from the
ASTORB.DAT and MPCORB.DAT files.
- [Chg] Preferences->USNO now has a selector to choose from
the official USNO A2.0 CD-ROM set or the Munsinger CD-ROM set.
The files are the same, but they're on different CD-ROMs.
- [Chg] Comet/Minor Planet import now has option to save the
downloaded file of elements, to save having to go on-line later
to get the same information.
- [Chg] Preferences->Sky/FOV now has a setting that allows
you to reverse the sky chart in N/S and/or E/W directions. [Chg]
Preferences->Catalogues. The button that used to read "Show
Catalogue ID Fields" now reads "Show Catalogue ID Fields
and Object Types" and does just that (i.e. shows you what
types of objects each catalogue contains).
- [Chg] The Print Selection Dialog now has the ability to select
objects for printing based on their highlighting rules (i.e.
select objects highlighted in the observing list).
- [Chg] The Export... Dialog now has the ability to select
objects for exporting based on their highlighting rules (i.e.
select objects highlighted in the observing list).
- [Chg] Comet and minor planet import lists now show current
RA,Dec, Motion (per hour) and Magnitude for the selected object.
- [Chg] Preferences->General now has a setting that allows
you to display more precision in the RA/Dec column of lists (i.e.
hh mm ss rather than hh mm, etc.) for those of
us who need it.
- [Chg] Only Retrieve RA/Dec from Telescope is no longer an
option in preferences. This feature, when off, caused more trouble
than it was worth.
- [Chg] The Show Sun, Moon, Planets in FOV setting in preferences
now shows all planets, moon and sun regardless of whether they
are objects in the plan document or not.
- [Chg] Spectral information now included with objects, editable,
imported from catalogues, exported, etc., etc.
- [Chg] Bunch of changes to Autostar export. Should now produce
more acceptable tours.
- [Chg] SkySensor 2000 alignment stars now included.
- [Chg] Application now checks on startup to make sure you
have the latest version of the AstroPlanner Data file and warns
you if not (it merely checks its version - no on-line activity
occurs).
- [Chg] A number of changes and fixes to the Telescope control
palette. It should now work a lot better, esp. with LX200GPS
scopes.
- [Chg] When you read a plan in text format, any user-defined
columns (having non-default headings) will be enabled and displayed
in the observing and planning lists.
- [Chg] Previously when AP went into the background, it would
stop computing visibility and accessing the telescope (if applicable)
in order to allow other apps more processor time. That is now
an option in Preferences->General.
- [Fix] Fix to avoid using "bogus" stars (with RA=Dec=Mag=0.0)
that inhabit the Bright Star Catalogue. These stars will no longer
appear on the Sky chart, Iterative and Drift alignment dialogs,
and the High-Precision Slewing dialog. They only appear under
certain conditions and went unnoticed until now...
- [Fix] The caption on the "Connect to telescope"
checkbox now changes more reliably to let you know why you can't
connect (e.g. prefs open, no serial port, fixed date, etc.).
- [Fix] Fixed problem with multi-column sorting.
- [Fix] Blank Size data in catalogues remains blank when imported
to plan document.
- [Fix] Autostar Tour export: No longer includes Size if it
is "0".
- [Fix] Merge by Site/Date/Time now takes the site horizon
into account correctly.
- [Fix] Fixed a pesky bug that insisted on saving changes to
your document when no changes of any kind were made.
- [Fix] (Windows) The Licence Agreement dialog no longer crashes
the application if you click the "No" button.
- [Fix] Some fixes to the Import... dialog and routines.
- [Fix] Reading AutoStar tours now more reliable.
- [Fix] Fixed a problem that caused nastiness if the 32-bit
option for NexStar telescopes was used.
Version 1.2 (1 January 2003)
- [New] Catalogues are now partitioned so that you if you are
searching for, say, planetary nebulae then only the catalogues
containing planetary nebulae need be searched. This will cut
down on search times.
- [New] Can now search description fields in catalogues using
regular expressions.
This is extremely geeky stuff and 99.9% of you will never need
to use this feature. However, if you do, you can do some clever
searches rather than plain-old string matching.
- [New] FOV drop-down menu now allows for custom FOVs. Useful
if you have, say, a pair of binoculars with 5.6° FOV.
- [New] Cross-indexing option on ID lookup. When an item is
found (e.g. a Messier object), the option will gather the other
IDs specified for that object (e.g. NGC, IC, etc.) and also search
other catalogues on those IDs. This will typically find most
entries in all catalogues.
- [New] Stars in FOV can now be displayed in colours that approximate
(exaggerate actually) their spectral hues (if that information
is available in the catalogue).
- [New] You can now define any number of custom "reticles"
for the Field of View chart. These can be either round or rectangular,
with size and colour of your choosing. This will help folks who
want to get an idea of what their CCD camera will see for example.
- [New] Added a timer feature to the Drift Alignment Helper
dialog. You can use it to remind yourself when to check for drift.
- [New] Telescope control palette (Meade-compatible scopes
only) for you control freaks out there. Useful for those who
like to sit inside and observe.
- [New] (option in Preferences->General). Graphical display
of an objects visibility during the night, showing object's altitude,
the moon's altitude, sunset, sunrise and civil, nautical and
astronomical twilight.
- [New] Resources->Sites now has a Find... button. When
you click on this you get to choose your location from over 32,000
US place names. Quicker than a GPS...
- [New] Ability to open Autostar Tour files as an AstroPlanner
Plan document (Use File->Open...). Useful if you don't have
an AutoStar-controlled scope but have some convenient Autostar
tours that you'd like to use.
- [New] Double-clicking an object in the Planning or Observation
lists, or in the list of objects returned from a search will
open a window containing the catalogue from whence that object
originated (if any) and select the line corresponding to that
object.
- [New] Support for USNO catalogue stars in the Field of View.
Half a billion stars down to more than 20th magnitude. This will
require (a) you have a copy of the USNO catalogue on CD-ROM or
on your hard disk and (b) that you be a paid-up user of AstroPlanner.
There's a new USNO tab in Preferences. You'll need either the
USNO zone files (*.acc and *.cat) on your hard disk or a set
of the USNO-A2.0 CD-ROMs (10 of them). Currently you can order
a set from Mike Munsinger.
- [New] Chart # column in observing list. This can be configured
from the Preferences->Charts tab. This column will display
the chart/map/page number of the object in the selected atlas.
Other atlases/charts might be forthcoming. The chart # data can
also be printed and exported.
- [New] Object->Lookup Synonyms... when used on an object
will search all catalogues for any objects at the same position
(+/- an arcsecond) and return them as search results. Useful
for cross-indexing.
- [New] Check for Updates... in File menu allows you to figure
out if there are any new app or catalogue updates available without
having to check the Yahoo group or web site. Click the Connect
button to connect to the update site. Assumes you have an Internet
connection.
- [New] Catalogue annotation. This option can be enabled in
Preferences->Catalogues and allows you to annotate catalogue
entries. The actual annotations are stored in a new file called
"Catalogue Annotations" in your application directory.
A text edit entry box will appear in the catalogue window and
you can add text to the entry for a selected object. That information
is (optionally) included when you select an object from a catalogue,
and can also be included (optionally) in any catalogue search.
- [New] Preferences->Telescope has a colour option (under
Slewing). When you slew to an object, that entry will be highlighted
in the given colour.
- [New] Preferences->Telescope has an option to display
FOV after slewing (under Slewing). When you slew to an object,
the Field of View tab is selected and the object is displayed.
Removes the second step from the usual (a) Slew to Object followed
by (b) Show Field of View
- [New] Now supports Vixen Sky Sensor 2000PC telescope controller.
- [New] Global object database. This is optional (Checkbox
on Preferences->General). What this feature does is store
copies of all observations you make in a single "global"
database (stored in the file "Observation Database"
in your application directory). This means that you can cross-reference
all observations of a particular object by its ID, even if they
are in different plan documents.
- You can examine and play with the global database by selecting
Observations->Show Global Observations. You can add observations
made before this version by using Observations->Transfer Local
Observations. You can select and compare observations, save them
as a tab-separated text file (File->Save as Text...), Export
them in a special format (File->Export...) so that they can
be imported (added) to another user's global database (File->Import...).
- The Observation Data/Time list in the plan document Observing
tab will show "global" observations of the same object
not in this plan as highlighted entries. You can look at these
by selecting them, but not change them.
- The observation counts in the object list "Obs"
column will be of the form xx/yy, where xx is the number of observations
made in the current document (as before) and yy is the total
number of observations of the same object (based on ID) in the
global database. Similarly for the new "Obs" column
in the Catalogue windows.
- If you're now confused, don't worry. This is an option for
"power" users.
- [Chg] Dragging the Field of View chart moves the view (sort
of like nudging a virtual Dob)
- [Chg] Added spectral colours to FOV legend (and comets/minor
planets if you have that enabled in Preferences)
- [Chg] Option in Preferences->General to keep the Observation
and Planning lists synchronised in order. Also the Planning list
can now be re-ordered by dragging rows.
- [Chg] Added ability to show solar system objects in Field
of View. Option in Preferences->Sky/FOV. Note: The
positions of these objects are approximations. Do not
expect them to be there when you look through your telescope
eyepiece. Perhaps the Finder though.
- [Chg] Show FOV button under Best Pair star list does just
what it says for the selected star.
- [Chg] Comet/Minor Planet import now has a combined entry
in the File menu. Now has the option to download directly from
the web to avoid the irritation of separate downloads.
- [Chg] Preferences window: Some stuff has been moved around,
and some stuff has been moved to a new "Catalogues"
tab. This includes a list of catalogues and the ability to show
a sky coverage graphic for items in the selected catalogue. Also
the ability to show a "Catalogues vs. IDs" matrix to
show what IDs are included in what catalogues.
- [Chg] Autostar tour export now supports PICK ONE...PICK END.
You can select, for example, that all objects in a particular
constellation or of a particular type are "clusered"
into a PICK ONE grouping. When the tour is used, the controller
chooses one of the items that is currently visible.
- [Chg] Save as Text (and corresponding Open...) now saves/loads
user-defined fields.
- [Chg] Synchronise Scope to Computer Clock now does the date
as well.
- [Chg] (Windows only) "^" button on top right of
document window "maximises" the window by making it
close to the size of the main MDI frame. If you use this instead
of the normal maximisation method (still available) you will
get most of the advantages without the disadvantages.
- [Chg] Typing the first few characters of an entry in a list
column (the selected or sorted one) will select that entry. Speeds
up navigation somewhat.
- [Chg] North celestial pole (NCP) and south celestial pole
(SCP) shown in Field of View where applicable.
- [Chg] Save AutoStar tours now have an option to use the Autostar
built-in library rather than specifying RA/Dec in the tour file.
Previously it wasn't an option.
- [Chg] Improved accuracy of star positions in Field of View.
Previously they were only accurate to 1 second of time in RA
and 1 second of angle in Dec. Now they have sub arc-second accuracy
(if the data have that accuracy). Especially noticeable in small
fields when using USNO catalogue.
- [Chg] Checkbox in Sky view shows what coverage you have with
USNO data currently on hard disk.
- [Chg] Select from Catalogue... dialog now remembers object
type and constellation list settings.
- [Chg] Results and Catalogue Display windows now have a "Keep
window open" checkbox that allows you to make several selections
from the window without closing it each time.
- [Chg] When you File->Open... a file, the directory you
chose is remembered next time you open a file.
- [Chg] Azimuth, Altitude, Rise Time, Transit Time, Set Time
and Visible fields can now be exported. Popup list of fields
is now alphabetically sorted.
- [Chg] Added Transparency field to observations.
- [Chg] Added popup menus of settings for Seeing and Transparency
(saves some typing and allows some consistency)
- [Chg] Added Hour Angle column to observing list.
- [Chg] When you click the limiting magnitude entries in the
catalogue list on the Field of View tab, you get a dialog that
gives you option of changing all entries in the list.
- [Chg] Visibility update rate (Preferences->General) now
has a Manual option. i.e. Visibility of objects will never be
calculated unless you specifically request it (Object->Refresh
Object Visibilities). This might help the impatient among us,
or those with slower computers.
- [Chg] Merge... command now has the option to merge only objects
visible from a given site on a given date/time.
- [Chg] Extended magnitudes check box on the Field of View
tab. This extends the range of star diameters on the chart down
to below 18. Also affects the legend display.
- [Chg] Compressed mode printing of object lists, by popular
request. There is a Compressed checkbox in the Print dialog.
Using this will print at most one line for each object. If all
the selected fields don't fit, they will not be printed. Print
in landscape mode if you need more fields to be printed (or reduce
the font size in Preferences).
- [Chg] Document title now includes number of objects currently
defined in the document.
- [Chg] Search results window now highlights any entries that
have duplicates already in the document you're working on (where
"duplicate" is defined as an object closer than 1 second
away). There's also a button that allows you to select non-duplicates.
- [Chg] Select from Catalogue... dialog now remembers its settings
(they are saved with the document).
- [Chg] Star colours in the FOV can now be edited (Preferences->Sky/FOV)
- [Chg] Import and Export dialogs can now save/load their settings
to/from files (Save and Load buttons at lower right of the dialog).
- [Chg] The Preferences->Telescope->"Show data flow
to and from telescope" setting now brings up a window with
a decoded explanation of each command sent to the scope so that
you don't need to bend your brain searching through Meade's evil
"Command Summary" web page.
- [Chg] The Select From Catalogue feature now searches only
catalogues that contain the particular data types requested (if
you use that feature), i.e. Sky2000 won't be searched for elliptic
galaxies, for example. If you only choose to search a particular
catalogue rather than all catalogues, only the object types contained
in that catalogue will be displayed in the dialog type list.
- [Chg] DSS now allows downloads from the 2nd generation blue
plate scans.
- [Chg] 32-bit commands for NexStar 8/11 GPS and 5i/8i users
with V1.6 or later of the hand controller firmware. Allows more
accurate RA/Dec readout and slewing
- [Chg] Blank entries always sort to bottom of lists.
- [Chg] Window menu now keeps track of Preferences, Resources,
DSS and other windows
- [Chg] Site Horizon in the Sky view now has its own colour
(change in Preferences-->Sky) rather than sharing the alt-azimuth
grid colour.
- [Chg] Splash window now appears much earlier in the startup
phase and has a progress bar to show what's happening.
- [Chg] FOV legends now optional and appear in a floating window.
This gives me more space to add new stuff.
- [Chg] DSS images now have the choice of 1st Generation or
2nd Generation data use (previously only 2nd generation data
was used, which sometimes is unavailable)
- [Chg] Search Results windows and Catalogue windows now have
a "Slew to Object" button for instant go-to satisfaction
(assuming the object in question is above the horizon...). No
longer need to to add the object to your plan if all you want
to do is take a quick look at it.
- [Chg] The "Special" menu is now called "Telescope"
(for obvious reasons) and the Night Vision Mode command has been
moved to the "Observation" menu.
- [Fix] Now computes correct positions for parabolic-orbit
comets.
- [Fix] Fixed bugs in the Autostar export function.
- [Fix] Fixed night-vision on Windows.
- [Fix] Fixed some anomalies with the searching features.
- [Fix] Fixed a crashing problem caused by read-only catalogue
files.
- [Fix] Use the "Current Telescope" setting when
clicking "Show Field of View"
- [Fix] New observations are initialised with the Current Telescope
setting.
- [Fix] LX200GPS scope should now be able to operate up to
56kbps. (Thanks Dick Seymour)
- [Fix] At last! Field of View now valid anywhere in the sky.
Previously it didn't work near the poles and introduced large
distortions at higher declinations.
- [Fix] Fixed a bug in multi-column sorts that caused the second
and third columns of the sort to be in the incorrect order.
- [Fix] Improved tabbing sequence for observations.
- [Fix] Fixed the position of some controls in the Catalogue
display window so that they don't disappear when you resize it.
- [Fix] A more cunning (?) algorithm is now used to extract
IDs, Names, etc. from catalogues. You should no longer see the
Name field being the same as the ID field - unless there's no
other alternative.
- [Fix] Can now print more than one page in the Windows version.
- [Fix] Show Field of View button now works for Sun, Moon,
Planets, Minor planets and Comets.
- [Fix] Pressing Esc (or cmd-period on Macs) now terminates
a search a bit more elegantly.
- [Fix] Conflicting search criteria no longer cause an absence
of results when you do a search over all catalogues.
- [Fix] Fixed bug that caused RA/Dec-bounded searched to be
only accurate to the nearest degree/hour.
- [Fix] Printing now honours page selection (i.e. if you only
want it to print pages 5 through 9 it will do so. Before it would
always print the whole schamoozle)
- [Fix] Removed the multi-threaded visibility updates from
the Windows version. This feature was causing major instability
and not much performance improvement. I will rethink this one.
- [Fix] The Select From Catalogue feature is now a lot faster
(no longer has the long pregnant pause before anything happens).
Also now correctly shows number of objects found while the search
is progressing.
- [Fix] Does not crash during search if Esc is pressed before
any items are found.
- [Fix] Various Windows cosmetic and minor fixes.
- [Fix] DSS now "forces" 1st generation data to be
used for the 1°x1° images (this is a limitation of the
web source of the data).
- [Fix] The settings in the Search and Find dialogs are now
remembered between uses to eliminate the need to reselect parameters
each time.
